Dubai Miracle Garden & the Dubai Butterfly Garden

Categories: Travel reports, Asia, United Arab Emirates, Dubai

We’ve seen so many times the great and out-of-the-way pictures of the Dubai Miracle Garden on Instagram or Facebook. This attraction is certainly one of Dubai’s most popular photo motifs. That’s why we were really looking forward to our visit.

The Dubai Miracle Garden

A magnificent flower paradise in the middle of the desert? Not possible? This is only possible in Dubai! 🙂 Since 2013, the Dubai Miracle Garden is the largest flower garden in the world. An artificially created colourful marvel of modern landscaping and one of Dubai’s most original and popular attractions.

Location, opening hours & entrance

Dubai Miracle Garden is located just outside the centre of DubaiLand, at the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Umm Suqueim Street. We took a taxi from Downtown Dubai, which cost about 50 AED (11 Euros). There is also a public bus (RTA, bus 105) from the metro station at the Mall of the Emirates. The bus goes directly to the flower garden without stopping. The journey takes about 20 minutes and costs 5 UAE dirhams per person.

The Dubai Miracle Garden is only open between November and May, when temperatures in the emirate are moderate. In the summer months, when temperatures rise to 40 degrees or more, the flower garden remains closed and the plants are covered to protect against the heat. Opening hours are open daily from Sunday to Thursday (9am-9pm) and Friday to Saturday (9am-11pm). Opening hours for Ramadan may vary slightly.

Admission costs: 55 AED (approx. 12€) for adults and 40 AED (approx. 10€) for children up to 12 years old. Admission is free for children under 3 years of age.

An overview map of the flower park

On an area of more than 72,000 square meters, you will find more than 150 million flowers in all colours as decoration for heart-shaped arches, figures, beds, buildings and even an entire airplane. The landscape architects always come up with something new, so that every year new flourishing installations can be admired by the 1.5 million visitors.

The following beautiful aerial view shows the size of the flower park with its different areas.

A walk through the sea of flowers

Around 11 o’clock in the morning we started our tour through the flower paradise. We first walked a little along the outer ring and could see great sculptures again and again: elephants covered with green plants, a 12 meter high teddy bear, a flower clock or even the castles decorated with flowers.

But also otherwise the garden offers again and again beautiful photo motifs.

The Heart Tunnel

Probably the most famous photo motif of Miracle Garden on Instagram is the Heart Tunnel. A walk through the heart-shaped arches, speckled with pink, red, orange and yellow petals, is something very special.

The Disney Avenue

Disney’s favorite characters can also be found at miracle garden on Disney Avenue. Thanks to an agreement with the Walt Disney Company, Mickey, Goofy and Co. are found in oversized and beautifully covered with flowers.

The A380 aircraft from Emirates

Another highlight of the flower garden is a true-to-original model of an Airbus A380 made of over 500,000 fresh flowers and plants which 200 people have been working on for almost half a year. There is also a nice video of the creation on YouTube.

For the joint project with the airline Emirates, only flowers and plants from sustainable cultivation were used on the 7,460 square metre site, especially petunias, bunting, student flowers, lion’s mouths, violets, gerania and cockades. The 30 tonne steel structure of the Airbus model is made of recycled materials and is around 73 metres long. The wings of the aircraft have a wingspan of just over 80 meters.

The flower garden as a world record

The flower garden is not only beautiful to look at, it also holds some records. In fact, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has more than 400 Guinness World Records: from the tallest building (Burj Khalifa), the largest building in the world in the form of a picture frame (Dubai Frame), the largest shopping centre (Dubai Mall), the largest Ferris wheel, the largest one-piece marquee, the highest climbing hall, the highest hotel up to the largest fountain system in the world and many more.

The Dubai Miracle Garden has also been awarded several world records by the prestigious Guinness World Records jury. The Miracle Garden has been the largest flower arrangement in the world since its opening. Since 2016, he has also been awarded the largest flower sculpture in the world in the form of the Airbus A380. The largest topiary sculpture in the world (shape cut figure) can also be found here. An 18-metre high Mickey Mouse sculpture consisting of 100,000 plants and flowers weighing almost 35 tonnes.

Is it worth visiting Dubai Miracle Garden?

Overall, we think that the Miracle Garden is a nice and worthwhile excursion destination. Even if the flower garden is certainly a bit cheesy, the idea is very unusual and therefore worth seeing. It’s just great how much it is to be able to implement the individual motives. Also the entrance fee of 12 euros is reasonable and it is definitely worth walking around the park for 2 or 3 hours.

The Dubai Butterfly Garden

Right next to the Dubai Miracle Garden is the Dubai Butterfly Garden, which it says is the “largest covered butterfly garden in the world”. On an area of 6,673 m2 and ten specially made domes there are over 15,000 butterflies in different sizes and colours.

The entrance fee is about 14 € (55 AED) and we spent another hour with the many butterflies.

Our travelogues from Dubai

Dubai is an insanely diverse city and has quite a few attractions to offer. In our previous vacations, we had gotten to know the city only as a classic "stopover destination". Thereby, we didn't really have much time to explore the many sights of the city. And the desert metropolis is a true photo and Instagram paradise. One motif is more beautiful and spectacular than the other. The tallest building in the world (Burj Khalifa), the largest building in the world in the form of a picture frame (Dubai Frame), the largest shopping center (Dubai Mall), the largest Ferris wheel (Ain Dubai), the largest flower garden (Dubai Miracle Garden), the tallest hotel (Burj Al Arab) to the largest fountain system in the world (The Plam Fountain) and many more.
Dubai Reiseberichte, Fotocollage In addition, Dubai has developed so rapidly in recent years, so that we now had enough time to explore the desert metropolis on the Persian Gulf a little better due to a longer vacation. Here you can find our travel reports about the city of superlatives.
