The park was added to the Unesco World Heritage List in 1983. The Vall\u00e9e de Mai is located in the heart of Praslin, home to the largest intact forest of the endemic Seychelles palm Coco de Mer, as well as many other endemic animal and plant species. The natural park with its 19.5 ha is one of the smallest national park areas in the world.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"the-location-of-the-park-on-the-island-of-praslin\"><\/span>The location of the park on the island of Praslin<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Vall\u00e9e de Mai is located <strong>in the heart of praslin National Park<\/strong> in the heart of the island and is easily accessible by car as well as by public bus. <\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m14!1m8!1m3!1d31827.537513234336!2d55.73594341160889!3d-4.327744485057141!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x0%3A0x324d29faa29d999f!2sVall%C3%A9e%20de%20Mai!5e0!3m2!1sde!2sde!4v1584702301852!5m2!1sde!2sde\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"opening-hours-parking-entrance-fees-tours\"><\/span>Opening hours, parking, entrance fees &amp; tours<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Vall\u00e9e de Mai is open <strong>daily from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.<\/strong> Only on 25.12. and 01.01. the park remains closed to visitors. There are plenty of free parking spaces in front of the entrance.<\/p>\n<p>The ticket prices are actually all: per person the entrance fee is <strong>350 SCR<\/strong> (about 24 EUR). Compared to the Fond Ferdinand certainly not a bargain. However, it should be added that 50 of the entrance fee goes to the protection of Aldabra Atoll and 30 to the Vall\u00e9e de Mai and the associated seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF). Compared to the <a href=\"https:\/\/one-million-places.com\/en\/seychelles\/praslin-fond-ferdinand-coco-de-mer\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"follow\" class=\"noicon\">Fond Ferdinand<\/a>Nature Reserve , which can only be visited by a guided tour, it is possible to explore it on your own in the Vall\u00e9e de Mai. Today there are only 2 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Seychelles. In addition to the Vall\u00e9e de Mai, <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/BCfwXH4RcrKLt1Du7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" class=\"extern matomo_link wpel-icon-right\">Aldabra Atoll<span class=\"wpel-icon wpel-image wpel-icon-3\"><\/span><\/a> (the largest atoll in the Indian Ocean) is another World Heritage Site, also managed by the Seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF).<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"the-path-system-in-the-park\"><\/span>The path system in the park<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It is best to take a small free brochure about the park with you at the checkout, because there are also the different paths marked. There are a total of <strong>3 different routes<\/strong>to explore the park:<\/p>\n<p>&#187; Purple Route: 1 kilometer \/ 1 hour<br \/>\n&#187; Green Route: 1.7 kilometers \/ 2 hours<br \/>\n&#187; Orange Route: 2 kilometers \/ 3 hours<\/p>\n<p>We chose the green route because we still wanted to take the viewpoint (Shelter), which is about halfway. During our walk on the well-maintained paths of the nature park, we met very few people. Although the park is certainly more crowded than the Fond Ferdinand, visitors are better distributed over the grounds than expected, because most of the guests are on their own. Millions of years of isolation have led to the emergence of <strong>many endemic species<\/strong> in the Vall\u00e9e de Mai. The absolute seclusion also favoured the development of very special relationships between the most diverse animals and plants.<\/p>\n<p>If you walk through the national park attentively and with a good eye, you may encounter the extremely rare Seychelles Black Parrot with its dark shiny feather dress. In total, 5,000 such palms, which are up to 40 m high, are expected to be located in the smallest space, which corresponds to the largest number in any place in the world.
