The town is located on the river Rio mac at the foot of the Central Peruvian Andes. Lima is an important transport hub and the most important economic and cultural centre with numerous universities, universities, museums and monuments. The old town of Lima, with its chessboard-like streets and magnificent colonial buildings, has been under the protection of UNESCO since 1991 and is therefore a World Heritage Site of mankind. Among the most famous sights are the Plaza de Armas, the Museo Arqueolgico Rafael Larco Herrera, the Huaca Pucllana, the Basilica of St. Francis, the Parque de la Reserva, the Cathedral and the Old Town.<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m14!1m12!1m3!1d125012.86008407421!2d-77.10417062282264!3d-12.066919679569546!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!5e0!3m2!1sde!2sde!4v1577660958730!5m2!1sde!2sde\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"the-sights-in-lima\"><\/span>The sights in Lima<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We took the metro bus for 2.50 soles per person (about 0.75 euros) to the old town, which with its checkered streets and buildings from the colonial era has been a <a href=\"https:\/\/one-million-places.com\/en\/travel-reports\/unesco-world-heritage-sites\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"follow\" class=\"noicon\">UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/a> since 1991. First port of call was the Plaza de Armas &#8211; the beautiful main square of Lima with the presidential palace, a cathedral as well as the city hall. Every day at about 12 o&#8217;clock a changing of the guard takes place at the presidential palace, where the chapel of the palace plays and where many tourists come.<\/p>\n<div id=\"jig1\" Via a pedestrian zone with many stores, it takes 10 minutes to reach Plaza San Martin, inaugurated in 1921 on the occasion of the Centennial of Independence. Miraflores is one of the richest districts of Lima and has a beautiful boardwalk overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The entrance fee is 4 Soles (about 1.20 euros). In the evening, the fountains are beautifully illuminated and at the largest fountain at different times also a light-music-fountain show takes place. Much was very modern here, there were large bright billboards, large cars, etc. &#8211; partly it seemed almost American. Only the traffic is like everywhere in the country &#8211; absolutely chaotic! So, that was our exciting time in Peru.
