Lihue<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Our <strong>Hawaiian Airlines<\/strong> flight departed for Lihue shortly after 5 p.m. It was a really short flight, because after only 20 class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Kauai is <strong>the fourth largest island in Hawaii<\/strong> and is known as Garden Island. The name is no coincidence: the oldest and northernmost island of the Hawaiian chain is surrounded by emerald valleys, mountains and rugged cliffs. In between you will find tropical rainforests, many rivers and beautiful waterfalls. Whether on land, on water or from the air \u2013 Kauai is a feast for the eyes from every perspective.<\/p>\n<p>On the island, there is one of the rainiest points on earth, with the 1,569-metre-high <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/1PiJVRpxW7nBeYMa6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" class=\"extern matomo_link wpel-icon-right\">Waialeale<span class=\"wpel-icon wpel-image wpel-icon-3\"><\/span><\/a>. The Napali Coast coastal mountain range and Waimea Canyon are the island&#8217;s most famous landmarks. To this day, by the way, no building can be built higher than a palm tree. We chose the hotel because of the good location (not far from the airport). We landed in the evening, so we had to &#8220;search&#8221; the hotel in the dark. According to Google Maps, it would have taken us 8 minutes, then it was half an hour. The hotel is located directly in the harbour area, i.e. you have to drive past containers, warehouses until you reach the hotel at some point. A sign on the main road would have been helpful. The hotel itself is great. There is a swimming pool, free wi-fi in the room, free breakfast (bagels, toast, jam). The room was clean and nicely decorated. Refrigerator and microwave are provided. You can see them everywhere: on the street, in parking lots, on the beach, on meadows&#8230; really everywhere! In 1992, Hurricane Inika is believed to have destroyed a large chicken farm, causing many chickens to escape and multiply ever since. Situated in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, 3,600 kilometres away from the US mainland, the 50th state of the USA. For many, it is the epitome of the South Seas. During our two-week stay in Hawaii we visited four of the six main islands: Kauai, O'ahu, Maui and Big Island. Each of these islands has its own personality, nature and sights and offers different activities for all tastes: From the big city Honolulu with the famous Waikiki Beach, the fascinating Waimea Canyon and the breathtaking Napali Coast on Kauai, the famous Road to Hana on Maui to the most active volcano in the world on Big Island.
