More than 50 shops and a large foodcourt invite you to linger and shop. The approximately 15 km long Tantalus Drive winds over Honolulus over countless serpentines and through lush green vegetation into <strong>the Pu&#8217;u Ualakaa State Park.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m14!1m8!1m3!1d50007.74161258568!2d-157.82415255472415!3d21.31703610804064!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x0%3A0xc206ab217259706c!2sTantalus%20Lookout%20-%20Puu%20Ualakaa%20State%20Park!5e0!3m2!1sde!2sde!4v1585952629062!5m2!1sde!2sde\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" aria-hidden=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Entrance to State Park is free. From a small parking lot, a path leads to the actual lookout point, which is located at the end of the mountain. You can see the entire city of Honolulu, the hotel skyscrapers of Waikiki and in the background the Diamond Head Crater. In the other direction, the runway of the airport is beautiful to see &#8211; and if you stay up here a bit, you can even see planes taking off.<\/p>\n<div id=\"jig1\" class=\"justified-image-grid After a short hike, you suddenly stand in the middle of the jungle. We really liked the lush green of the pans and trees! Every five meters we stopped, looked into the depths of the jungle and were firmly convinced that this must be the Hollywood filming location. Bathing is not allowed here &#8211; at least it is on the prohibition signs. At one corner is a small viewing platform from which you have a good view of the waterfall. <\/p>\n<p>Since it started to rain slightly after a few minutes, we just took a few photos quickly and then made our way back. Due to the heavy rains, which often occur here due to the dense tropical rainforest, the soil is often moist and muddy. Accordingly, our shoes looked like this when we arrived at the parking lot again. If you are looking for a place for an hour-long walk in a breathtaking natural setting, this is the place to be!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"all-travelogues-from-hawaii\"><\/span>All travelogues from Hawaii<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n\r\nWe had already visited the islands of Hawaii during <a href=\"https:\/\/one-million-places.com\/en\/world-trip\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"follow\" class=\"noicon\">our trip around the world<\/a> on the way from North America to Australia. Here we were on O'ahu, Kaua'i, Maui and Big Island. Because we were so enthusiastic about the different islands and the diversified nature, we were able to make up for all the things we had not been able to do last time or which were partly not even possible. In 2015, for example, you couldn't see flowing lava on Big Island, because it didn't flow towards the sea as usual, but towards an inhabited village. And this was closed for access for the safety of all. But since 2016 the lava of Kilauea is flowing towards the ocean again and so we could finally realize one of our biggest wishes: To stand very close to flowing lava. We also wanted to snorkel on O'ahu in Hanauma Bay, climb Koko Head Crater, see a hula show, marvel at the fireworks of the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, enjoy the sunrise on the 3,055 meter high Haleakala and watch the turtles on the beach along the Road to Hana.
