The Caribbean island of Bonaire with its approximately 18,000 inhabitants is part of the Lesser Antilles. Along with Aruba and Curacao, Bonaire is one of the ABC islands (islands under the wind) and is only 80 kilometres from the South American mainland (Venezuela). The island consists of two parts, the greener, hilly northern part and the flat southern half. The island government is based in the capital Kralendijk.
