Belize is a small state on the Caribbean Sea in the southeast of the Yucatán Peninsula and has about 400,000 inhabitants. The capital is called Belmopan, the former capital Belize City is an economic center and mostly a port of call for cruises. The name is derived from the word “belix”, which in the Mayan language means “murky water”. It is the only country in Central America with English as the official language. Belize is mainly covered by rainforest and half of the country is protected.
Sightseeing flights over cities, landscapes or sights are always something special for us. Whether via Rio de Janeiro, the Iguza Waterfalls, the Victoria Falls in Africa, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia or the Napali Coast in Hawaii – looking at the world from a bird’s eye view fascinates us again and again. At 3 o’clock in the night the alarm clock rang today – a terrible time! After picking up our breakfast-to-go at the hotel reception, a taxi took us to the “Aeropuerto Mariscal Sucre”, the international airport of Quito. With the departure from Quito we also say goodbye from South America. We have been touring the continent for 7 weeks and are now looking forward to new adventures in Central and North Americabefore we venture to Hawaii and Australia 🙂» Read the full blog post
