The national territory also includes the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla on the North African coast. With 280 sunny days a year and over 7 hours of sunshine per day, Spain is one of the sunniest countries in Europe. There are 44 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Spain: prehistoric rock paintings, historic cities and buildings, bridges, National parks and landscapes. Only Italy (49) and China (45) have more World Heritage sites.
