We spent the last day of our tour “Typical Vietnam” with Gebeco with a trip to the tunnels of Cu Chi, which served the Vietcong during the Vietnam War as a retreat and operational base.

Vietnam is a coastal state in South East Asia and borders on China, Laos and Cambodia. Vietnam is only slightly smaller than Germany in terms of surface area, but with around 95 million inhabitants it has a larger population. The capital is Hanoi, the largest city of the country with 7 million inhabitants is Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Other important cities are Da Nang, Hai Phong, Nha Trang, Hue and Vinh. The north-south extension of the country is about 1,650 kilometres, the east-west extension varies from 600 kilometres in the north to the narrowest point with 50 kilometres width in Central Vietnam.
The Mekong Delta – A bike & boat tour (Vietnam)
For today we have decided on an optional excursion with Gebeco, which has taken us and almost our entire tour group to the Mekong Delta in the south of Vietnam. Off to the South! We leave central Vietnam and fly with Vietnam Airlines to the metropolis Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), where we will spend the next two nights. The city is lively and modern with its skyscrapers and millions of mopeds, but has retained much of its french colonial charm.

For today’s day of our Gebeco tour we had two options: Either we do something on our own in Hoi An or we join the bookable trip to the temple city My Son. Since we were very interested in the temple complex, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, we decided on the second variant.

After we had arrived in Hue in the early morning with the night train from Hanoi and had sufficiently strengthened ourselves in the hotel for the breakfast buffet, our today’s excursion program could start. Our Gebeco trip “Typical Vietnam!” included the approximately 3-hour trip to the imperial citadel of Hue.

The first stop of our vietnam trip was Hanoi, because here we also landed and spent the first day. We had been looking forward to the city in advance, because we had already been to Hanoi on our world tour in 2015 and back then we liked the city very much 🙂

We are going back to Vietnam! After stopping in Hanoi and Halong Bay for a few days on our 2015 world tour, we now had a little more time to cross the country from north to south and get to know each other. At around 6 p.m. today we arrived at the airport in Hanoi on time, coming from Beijing. The flight with Vietnam Airlines was nicely quiet and lasted 3 1/2 hours.
