Austria has been a member of the European Union since 1995 and has about 8.8 million inhabitants. Austria consists of the nine federal states of Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Vienna. Vienna is also the capital of the country. Other large cities are Graz, Linz, Salzburg and Innsbruck.

After looking mainly at the sights of Vienna’s city centre on the first day, we used our 2nd day in Vienna to take a look at the other landmarks of the city. Since the weather was perfect on our two days, we mostly walked and used almost no public transport.

In the centre of Vienna, i.e. the Inner City or the 1st district, are many of the top sights of the 1.8 million large Austrian capital. The historic centre of Vienna has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001, as it is a special 3 key periods of European political and cultural development (medieval, baroque and founding period).

Today was the start of our week-long A-ROSA river cruise Danube classic along the second longest river in Europe through the countries of Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.
