Argentina has about 45 million inhabitants and is the second largest country in South America after Brazil. The name Argentina is derived from “argentum”, the Latin word for silver. Argentina’s nature is very varied: in the north the country borders on the tropical rainforests, in the west on the mountain range of the Andes, in the east on the long Atlantic coast and in the south the rocks of Cape Horn in Tierra del Fuego form the tip of the American continent. The Aconcagua in the Andes is with its 6,961 meters the highest mountain in America. The largest cities in the country are the capital Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Rosario, Mendoza and San Miguel de Tucumán. Eleven UNESCO World Heritage Sites are part of the World Heritage in Argentina (as of 2017), including six World Heritage Sites and five World Natural Heritage Sites.
