The state of Malaysia has about 31 million inhabitants and is located in South East Asia. Malaysia was formed from different areas, which in different forms were all part of the British Empire. The current parts of the country are the Malay Peninsula in the west and parts of the island of Borneo in the east. The highest elevation is Mount Kinabalu on the island of Borneo, 4,095 metres high. The biggest and most important cities are, besides the capital Kuala Lumpur, the cities George Town, Ipoh and Johor Bahru.
