Today we literally went to THE Hot Spot on Big Island: The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which was founded in 1916. The park has been declared an International Biosphere Reserve and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Sitesince 1987. The 1,348 km2 area of the park includes extensive lava fields from various episodes and is home to the active volcanoes Kilauea and Mauna Loa.

Lava Boat Tour – A boat trip to Ocean Entry on Big Island (USA)
After we had already made a hike over lava fields and could see flowing lava up close and taking a bike tour to the Kalapana Lava Viewing Area, it was now time to see the Ocean Entry of the current lava flow vis-a-vis with a “Lava Boat Tour”.

After our overwhelming lava hike to an active flowing lava flow in the Kilauea East Rift Zone, today we wanted to ride the bikes again to the Kalapana Lava Viewing Area, from where you can see the Ocean Entry from afar.

Seeing flowing lava from very close has always been a dream of ours and was therefore at the top of our bucket list. And today was finally the day when this dream was to come true. Today, a Lava Hike in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park was on the agenda 🙂

Today we took advantage of the late check-out time of our accommodation Aarons Cottage slept long and had breakfast late. Around 12 o’clock we made our way to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to drive the Chain of Craters Road.

Today the alarm clock rang again early, as our flight from Maui to Big Island with Hawaiian Airlines started already at 8.30 a.m. Big Island is the 4th Hawaiian Isel on our world tourafter Oahu, Kauai and Maui.
