Marsa Alam – The Dive Center from Coraya Divers (Egypt)

After our check-in at the Hotel Jaz Samaya we were the first to go to the coraya divers’ diving school.

The diving center can be reached in just about 5 minutes on foot via the small path on the beach.

We have been diving a lot on our trips, but we hadn’t seen such a large and well-organized diving school before 🙂 Since the diving school is under German management, there are mainly German-speaking employees. Only our diving guides were Egyptians, but they all speak very good English. After completing the registration formalities, you will be assigned a key and your own box. Then there is a tour through all the stations of the diving school: the drying room, the water basins for cleaning the equipment, the boards with the individual excursions, the issuing stations of the fuel cards, the meeting point corner, etc.

The equipment of the diving school

The equipment (which we borrowed) was consistently good. Wetsuit, BCD, regulator and computer cost a total of 21 € per day. What is not in the price list is that every buddy team has to have a buoy with them. We didn’t know that from previous dives (whether in Egypt or elsewhere). We had to borrow them for 2 € per day.

There are 12 litres and also 15 litres of tanks. The large tanks and Nitrox cost nothing extra.

The different diving trips

The diving school offers several excursions each day to the different dive sites around Marsa Alam and Coraya Bay. You can either dive directly on the house reef, go to the dive sites near the house reef with the Zodiac (free) or make different half-day and full-day tours by boat or bus. The selection is really large and there are also several times a week well-known diving spots like the Elphinstone Reef. We decided on a total of 2 full day tours to Shaab Marsa Alam and Marsa Shouna & Um El Ros. The other dives we did at the house reef and near Coraya Bay.

Coraya Divers prices

We did a total of 11 dives with the Coraya Divers:

– A Check Dive at the house reef (1 dive)
– at the dive spots Gamila & Coraya by speedboat (2 dives)
– a full day tour to the dive spots Marsa Shouna and Um El Ros (2 dives)
– a full day tour to the dive spot Shaab Marsa Alam (2 dives)
– and the remaining dives on the eastern and southern house reef (4 dives)

For everything together we have incl. full-day excursions, equipment, diving insurance (7 euros for 3 weeks), permission fees, etc. 450 € per person. We found this a fair price, even if there are certainly diving centers in Egypt that are still a little cheaper. The current price list (as of November 2016) can be found here.
