Greece has about 11 million inhabitants and is located in the eastern Mediterranean in southern Europe. Geographically, the country consists of the Greek mainland, the Peloponnese peninsula, and more than 3,000 islands – from the largest island of Crete to smaller islands such as Lesbos, Rhodes, Kos, Santorini, Corfu, Samos, Naxos, Zakynthos, Kefalonia and Mykonos. Due to its island wealth, Greece has a remarkable coastline of 13,676 kilometres. The highest elevation is the peak of the Psiloritis in Crete at over 2,400 metres. The Greek culture is considered the first high culture in Europe and the Greeks are also considered the inventors of democracy. Eighteen UNESCO World Heritage Sites belong to the World Heritage in Greece (as of 2017): Temple of Apollo at Bassae, Delphi, Acropolis of Athens, Mount Athos, Meteora Monasteries, Ancient City of Epidauros, Rhodes, Ruins of Olympia, Mystras, Delos Island, Daphni Monasteries, Hosios Luke and Nea Moni, Pythagoreion and Heraion of Samos, Archaeological Site of Vergina, Archaeological Sites of Mycenae and Tiryns, Old Town on the island of Patmos, Old Town of Corfu, Archaeological Site of Philippi.

Delos Island – The ruins of the ancient city of Delos (Greece)

The island of Mykonos, home to just under 10,000 inhabitants, is one of the most famous Greek islands in the Aegean Sea and is a popular destination for many tourists. That the island should be the first stop of our cruise, we were incredibly pleased, because here is among others the beautiful city Mykonos Town and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the ancient city of Delos.

When we got the offer after ITB Berlin to explore a new cruise route in the Greek Aegean with Celestyal Cruises and Discover Greece, we were very happy.
