Bali – Stopover in Denpasar & onward flight to Flores (Indonesia)

Categories: Travel reports, Asia, Indonesia

After 13 wonderful days in Australia we arrived today at around 9pm with Air Asia from Perth at the airport in Denpasar in Bali.

Denpasar

Our Denpasar hotel

Since we already had a further flight to Labuan Bajo (island Flores) at 8 o’clock the next morning, we chose the airport-nearby Solaris Hotel Kuta for the night. A taxi ride there costs 3-5 euros and takes about 5-10 minutes… so everything is quite cheap & fast.

On arrival, we have already seen a mass of young men in front of the hotel, who have been rumbling right in front of the entrance. That seems to be normal there. The value for money in the hotel is really very good. For just 20 euros you can spend a night here. The check-in went smoothly. The room was fine. At first we had problems with the air conditioning, so we had to call a house technician. But unfortunately it has not cooled as much as hoped. Restaurants, bar and small supermarkets can be found around the hotel. For one night it was perfectly fine. The next time we are in Kuta for several days, we would certainly stay somewhere else.

Our flight from Denpasar to Labuan Bajo

The next morning we went straight to Labuan Bajo (island flores)at 8 o’clock on time, where we will spend the next days relaxing & diving. The island of Flores is about 800 km east of Bali and the flight with Wings Air took about 1.5 hours. What we noticed during the security check in Bali: It is allowed to take drinks on national flights. On international, of course, not. The logic must first be understood.

Around 9.30 a.m. we landed on time in the port city of Labuan Bajo. The komodo airport there is quite small, but a completely new airport terminal was only opened at the end of 2015. The new terminal will make it possible to increase the current 150,000 passengers per year to 1.5 million. So here everything is designed for tourism and the Komodo National Park with its warans.

Transfer to Angel Island Resort

In front of the airport building we were then greeted by an employee of our booked resort Angel Island and taken by car to the port.

From here we went directly with a transfer boat to the small private island ‘Angel Island’ 30minutes away. On the way by boat we got a little taste of the island from afar – a beautiful white beach on turquoise blue water. We were very excited about how it is on the island. You can read the report on The Angel Island Resort in the next post.
