Flores – Angel Island Eco Resort in Labuan Bajo (Indonesia)

Categories: Travel reports, Asia, Indonesia

From the port in Labuan Bajo we were taken by transfer boat to our hotel. Already from the boat we could see the great location of the small private island Angel Island and were very happy to the small Angel Island Eco Resort booked there.

The location of Angel Island

The Angel Island Resort was only opened in 2009 on a small private island and is managed by the two Englishmen Kath & Ernest. The complex is located off the coast of Flores west of the port city of Labuan Bajo on the edge of Komodo National Park and can be reached by boat in about 20 minutes.

Around 12 o’clock we laid out with our transfer boat on the small beach.

The Angel Island Eco Resort

We were received equally friendly by some employees and were able to take off our sneakers – we probably won’t need them here anymore 😉 A staff member then showed us the most important things in the resort, such as the restaurant (with a magnificent view), the private beach, the diving school, the office … and our villa. On the island there are only 10 villas, which are beautifully hidden in a garden of hibiscus shrubs. When you drive to the island, you think it is uninhabited. You can only see the beaches from each side, but no villas or other buildings. This of course also has to the “disadvantage” that none of the villas has a sea view. But since you’re just sleeping here anyway, that doesn’t bother you at all. You can just lie down on the beach and have the sea right in front of your nose.

The resort has a total of three beaches. A public beach (where you can also arrive by boat), a private beach only for resort guests and at the back another beach, where hardly anyone is. The private beach was the most interesting for us.

Our villa in the resort

The villas are very spacious. In the middle of the room stands the large bed on its own pedestal. Behind it, the bathroom goes off, which is half outdoors. A wonderful feeling to stand in the sun while showering 🙂

The food at the resort

At Angel Island Resort we will spend a total of six nights and have booked a diving package online for four days in advance. Since there is nothing else on the island but the small resort, there is a full catering. This means breakfast, lunch and dinner a la carte. And also the drinks (except alcoholic) are included. Nice, if you don’t have to worry about having to go shopping again or thinking about what you cook in the evening etc.

The choice in the restaurant was really great – whether Indonesian or European, whether meat, fish or vegetarian. The map was huge and we always found something delicious.

The baby sharks on The Beach of Angel Island

Apart from the fact that there are sweet baby sharks here, which romp in the very shallow water every day in the early morning and late afternoon, you can snorkel directly from the beach and dive to explore the house reef.
