If you have always wanted to eat scorpions, seahorses, snails, sea urchins, frogs, snakes, centipedes or locusts, you will definitely find it in Perking. In the Wangfujing Snack Street in the middle of the city center you can discover all kinds of culinary delights.

The main Shopping Street Wangfujing
After visiting the Summer Palace we went back to the centre by metro. Last stop for today was Wangfujing Street – the main shopping street of Beijing. Here you will find many large department stores and shopping malls.
Local Street Food at Wangfujing Snack Street
But we found the adjacent Wangfujing Snack Street, where you could discover all sorts of culinary delights, much more interesting. The entrance to Snack Street with the large gate is relatively easy to find and is located west of the main shopping street.
In Snack Street you will find in the restaurants and street stalls all sorts of local and exotic delicacies. The road is especially famous for the deep-fried scorpions on the skewer. But you can find many more curiosities like starfish, frogs, snakes, centipedes, seahorses and much more. Many of these animals are (unfortunately) alive and still moving. They are then prepared almost fresh in the fryer or on the grill for dinner…
It is really incredibly interesting to stroll through this street and to look at the most diverse “delicacies” at the individual stands. In the meantime, many stalls have already put up a “no photo” sign, as they are probably annoyed by the photographing tourists. But well, what do they expect? For us, this food culture is very extraordinary and therefore an attraction. Perhaps we should also put up such a sign at Neuschwanstein Castle or in Heidelberg 😉
A video of the skewered scorpions
Here is a short video of the skewered still living crawling animals.
Starbucks Global Icon City Mug of Beijing
Unsere komplette Sammlung könnt Ihr Euch hier ansehen: Starbucks – Unsere Tassensammlung der Global Icon SerieDid you know that China has the second most Starbucks stores after the US? There are more than 14,000 Starbucks stores in the US (as of 2018) and more than 3,500 in China. Beijing has several Starbucks stores and also its own cup 🙂
