Hotel Heinz – A weekend at a wellness hotel (Germany)

Categories: Travel reports, Europe, Germany

After our last holidays to the Maldives and Greece, it was time to explore our own homeland. There are still so many beautiful places in Germany that we don’t know yet. And so we decided to go this weekend to the beautiful Westerwald to the wellness hotel Heinz, more precisely to Höhr-Grenzhausen, a small town near Koblenz – right in the middle between Frankfurt and Cologne.

The Hotel Heinz in Höhr-Grenzhausen

We spent our little “time out” at the Hotel Heinz, which has been a family business since 1913. The hotel is located on the edge of the 10,000-inhabitant town of Höhr-Grenzhausen, in the middle of the Kannenbäckerland, which is famous for its ceramics industry. The hotel is accessed via a hillside road, where the Hotel Heinz is on its left after a short time. On the right is the hotel’s free parking.

In the hotel we were warmly welcomed in the modern lobby and got a welcome drink and a guided tour to get to know the extensive grounds. Because it can happen to you that you run away, because the hotel is very winding on the one hand and on the other hand is just really huge 🙂

The Hotel Heinz is a four-star superior hotel and a TÜV-approved wellness hotel. But whether we like a hotel does not depend on any awards, but whether we feel comfortable. And that was definitely the case at Hotel Heinz. Friendly staff, great food, a great room, fantastic massages and a nice ambience in a great location. Around 260 employees take care of the well-being of the hotel guests with great attention to detail – and this can be seen at every point 💗

Our room in the new South Wing tract

The Hotel Heinz offers a total of 98 rooms in different sizes and at a wide range of prices – from simple standard rooms to spacious suites.

We stayed in one of the new rooms in the south wing tract, which were only renovated in autumn 2017 and completely redesigned. On 32 sqm you will find a very modern and tasteful décor paired with warm colours and wooden elements. The icing on the cake is the small French balcony, which can accommodate two people, as well as the ground-floor rain shower in the bathroom. An absolute feel-good room that we really liked!

When booking, you can decide whether you want to book the room including breakfast “only” or the pampering package “Wellness-Basic”, which includes a 4-course menu as well as an active program, or other arrangements, which also include wellness treatments.

The large Wellness & Beauty area

The hotel Heinz is rightly called a wellness hotel. Guests can enjoy a 2,500-square-metre spa area with an indoor pool, seven saunas, a spacious outdoor area and a conservatory. We have also been pampered here – with a relaxing aroma oil massage or a facial. What really surprised us was that at the Hotel Heinz alone about 30 trained beauticians and masseurs as well as naturopaths and physiotherapists work, who take care of the daily sports & relaxation program as well as the wellness & beauty area.

More hotel areas

Somewhat hidden in the hotel is the library, into which you can retreat if you want some peace and quiet and want to read one of the many books. If you need some action, you can get a look at the gym, which is also available on the hotel grounds. With the more than 30 degrees that prevailed this weekend, there was – who is surprised – no human soul to see 😉 Cool drinks and cocktails are available daily from 6pm at the Miro Bar, which is right next to the reception.

The extensive hotel grounds

As already mentioned, the hotel area is really very large – but is also wonderful for a short walk. Our first port of call was a small pond, which is located just below the hotel in the middle of the forest. Here there are some hammocks right on the water, in which you can relax. Or you can watch the ducks doing their rounds in the water. If you go back to the hotel, you walk past the horse paddock and two enclosures with the donkeys Frieda and Fridolin, the house pony Charlie as well as lots of Westerwaldfoxes – like cute. For horse lovers, the hotel is definitely a big plus, because you can bring your own horse, which is supplied for a fee and placed in the boxes. It’s kind of cool and we haven’t seen that anywhere else. A bicycle and motorbike garage, a barbecue hut and a conference centre are also available on the premises. And if you like an extravagant journey, you can of course arrive with your own helicopter, because there is also a corresponding landing possibility here 🙂

The food at the Hotel Heinz

Hotel Heinz has various restaurants and the hotel’s own pastry shop “Sweet Workshop”. The breakfast buffet is available every day from 7 a.m. and offers a rich selection for every taste – different types of bread, fresh fruit & vegetables, various juices and delicious cakes. On the restaurant’s own terrace you can start the day in sunny summer weather. In the evening we enjoyed ourselves in the “Rudolfs” and ended the day with an a la carte dinner. The menu is clear, but the water in your mouth is already running out when you read through the menu. In the end, a rump steak, a leaf salad with shrimp and fresh chanterelles with bread dumplings landed on the plates – a real treat!

Excursions in the region

The region around the Hotel Heinz has a lot to offer! Many hiking and cycling trails, beautiful towns in the surrounding area such as Koblenz, Montabaur, Cochem or Limburg, the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Limes & Upper Middle Rhine Valley, the Geyser Andernach (the highest cold water geyser on earth), the Moselle, the Westerwald as well as insanely many castles and castles. The Hotel Heinz has a very informative website, where you can get great information about the different activities and sights.

We would have liked to have looked at a lot more here in the 2 days, but (also due to the weather) we only visited the beautiful castle Eltz, the huge suspension rope bridge Geierlay and also the fashion outlet in Montabaur, which is only 10 minutes away from the hotel.
