Our world is so incredibly beautiful and versatile and we want to explore & experience as much of it together as possible. We are Sandra and Michael from Darmstadt – commuters between full-time jobs and 30 days of vacation per year. There is a lot of wanderlust in between. Calgary – Stopover at the Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel (Canada)

Today was departure day and for us we went from Hawaii via Canada back to Frankfurt. Two weeks of island hopping are over and we fly home with great memories like the Lava Hike on Big Island, the Koko Crater Railway Trail on Oahu or the sunrise on the Haleakala on Maui. But before we went home, we had a short stopover at the Calgary Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel.

Maui – Sunrise from the top of Haleakala Volcano (USA)

The most visible landmark of the whole of Maui is the massive shield volcano Haleakala, which occupies more than 75 of the area of the island and is the highest elevation at 3,055 meters. If you start from the actual foot of the volcano, which is far below the sea, it is even 9,053 meters high. The Haleakala is currently not active and researchers believe it must have last erupted around 1790. A must-do on Maui can be seen sunrise …

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park – Things to do & Photo spots (USA)

Today we literally went to THE Hot Spot on Big Island: The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which was founded in 1916. The park has been declared an International Biosphere Reserve and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Sitesince 1987. The 1,348 km2 area of the park includes extensive lava fields from various episodes and is home to the active volcanoes Kilauea and Mauna Loa.

Big Island – Arrival in Hilo & Akaka Falls State Park (USA)

Today we went to the second island of our Hawaii holiday. We were looking forward to Big Island, because on the largest Hawaiian island we had already planned some great activities. The official name of Big Island is ‘Hawai’i’, as is the name of the entire state and archipelago. But not to confuse the two, most people just talk about Big Island.
