UNESCO is an international organization of the United Nations for Education, Science and Culture, which has made it its mission to award and protect outstanding testimonies of human history and natural history with the World Heritage Title. The World Heritage List was first opened in 1978 and today comprises 1,121 sites in more than 167 countries (as of May 2020), which are world-important in their uniqueness, authenticity and integrity. These are currently 869 cultural monuments, 213 natural sites and 39 mixed natural and cultural sites. They are all architectural and artistic masterpieces, diverse cultural landscapes and parks, unique natural areas or testimonies of social and technological developments and testify in their entirety to the diversity of the world’s natural and cultural heritage. There are currently 46 World Heritage Sites in Germany, including seven cross-border or transnational sites.

Quito – Tourist Attractions, Things to Do & Photo Spots (Ecuador)

Today our 10 days ended in the Galapagos Islands. Just in time at 9.30 am today we were picked up by a taxi in our Hotel Fiesta and taken to the airport of Santa Cruz, which is located about 45 km north of Puerto Ayora on the island of Baltra. From here our flight from the Galapagos Islands took off back to the mainland to Quito.

Isabella – Snorkeling in Los Tuneles (Galapagos Islands)
