Bali – Rafting on the Telaga Waja River (Indonesia)

Categories: Travel reports, Asia, Indonesia

Today we were looking forward to an activity we have never done before: rafting 🙂

Bali

Our day tour in Bali

We had done some research in advance to find out what you can do in Bali. Thereby we came across the beautiful tour “Telaga Waja Rafting and Ubud Tour” from Bali Rafting Tours, which combines nature (rice terraces), wildlife watching (monkey forest) and sports (rafting) in only one day – that sounded very good.

Start of the Rafting Tour

At 9 o’clock today our driver picked us up from the hotel and took us to a rafting provider. Since we have never raft before, we wanted to try it. The rafting in the Telaga Waja river was described as a perfect start for beginners: It’s safe, the speed is not so high, but still high enough to get the adrenalin pumping. We were very excited!

We both had a boat for ourselves. Before we started, our guide equipped us with vests and last info and then we could start.

Rafting on the Telaga Waja River

At the entrance to the river many moths were gathered. The 14 km long stretch went past lush green rainforest, rice terraces, steep cliffs, bamboo bridges and small waterfalls. At first the start was leisurely and it went comfortably down the river, so we didn’t even have to paddle along and could enjoy the beautiful landscape of Bali. Our guide paddled and steered us safely through the rough river at the beginning.

But after a while we had to help non-stop: The river got a bit rougher, sometimes it had more water, sometimes less, sometimes we got completely wet by a waterfall, had to paddle around obstacles and much more. Sometimes we got stuck with our dinghy between big stones and had to help to get free again. Sometimes we were overtaken by other boats, sometimes we overtook others. All in all it was a lot of fun! About halfway we made a short stop at a beautiful waterfall.

By boat 4 meters into the depth

And the crowning finale after two hours of rafting came at the end: our guide stopped the boat, collected the paddles and gave us instructions on how to behave the next meters in the boat. In the end it was: just hold on tight! Because in front of us was the dropoff of the 4 meter high Bajing Dam. That was madness!

The variety between calm phases, the rapids and the views in the middle of the jungle made this rafting tour on the Telaga Waja River in Bali something very special.

After we changed our clothes and had a short shower, we had a delicious Indonesian lunch in buffet form and then our today’s tour to the monkey forest and to the rice terraces could continue.
