The Pointe – The Palm Fountain at Palm Jumeirah (Dubai)

Kategorien: Reiseblog, Asia, United Arab Emirates, Dubai

Dubai is the site of new neighbourhoods and attractions almost every year. More and more is being built and so there is always something new to discover. In addition to Al Seef and Bluewaters Island, the new “The Pointe” neighborhood opened at the end of 2018 at the top of the world-famous artificial island of Palm Jumeirah, on the other side of Atlantis The Palm Bay.

The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah

The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah is located on the 4 km long trunk of the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah. Created in 2001, palm island is 560 hectares in size and consists of three sections: the trunk (The Trunk), the 16 different sized palm fronds (The Fronds) and the outer sickle moon (The Crescent) to protect against storm surges.

The location of The Pointe in Dubai

The Pointe is about 130,000 square meters in size and has a 1.5 kilometer long promenade with over 100 restaurants and shops. This beach promenade runs on both sides of the trunk and is divided into a “West Marina” and an “East Marina”. The shops are open daily from 10:00 to 22:00, the restaurants from 10:00 to 24:00.

When we were in Dubai for the first time in 2012 and were looking for a nice photo spot for the Hotel Atlantis the Palm, The Point was still completely undeveloped. So we had a great comparison of how this area of the palm island has completely changed in just a few years 🙂

What is the best way to get to The Pointe?

To get to The Pointe, there are currently 3 ways: by car, boat or taxi.

Unfortunately, this is not so easy with public transport at the moment, as the new station “The Pointe Station” of the Palm Monorail is not yet finished. However, this is expected to happen in 2021. Otherwise, the area has 1,600 parking spaces. Parking is not cheap: the first hour costs AED 20 (4.50 €) and every additional hour AED 10 (2.20 €). However, if you spend 100 AED in a shop or restaurant, you can have your parking ticket devalued and get 3 hours of parking for free. Some hotels on the Palm Island already offer a boat transfer.

We took a taxi from Downtown Dubai and paid AED 60 (approx. 13.50 €).

The view from The Pointe

The view from the Pointe to the lagoon of the Palm Island and the Hotel Atlantis is truly magnificent. We found the western beach promenade a bit more beautiful, because here you don’t have the bridge of the Monorail in your eye-catcher.

The Promenade

The promenade is beautifully designed and offers various restaurants, entertainment and leisure facilities. The gastronomic offer ranges from fast food to fine cuisine. Due to the currently not yet optimal connection to the public transport one also notices that here is not so much going on compared to neighborhoods like La Mer, the Dubai Marina or of course Downtown Dubai with the Dubai Mall.

The Palm Fountain Dubai

The main attraction of The Pointe are the water fountains on both sides of the promenade. The Palm Fountain Dubai is officially the largest fountain in the world with a water area of 14,000 square meters, replacing the previous record holder the Dubai Fountain at the Burj Khalifa. The fountains rise 105 metres in height and illuminate the sky of Dubai with magical 3,000 LEDs.

The Palm Fountain shows are held every 30 minutes from Monday to Friday from 19:00 to 22:30 and on Saturday and Sunday from 19:00 to 23:30. Admission is of course free of charge.

The fountains we liked especially after sunset. Together with the illuminated Hotel Atlantis in the background, the water fountains form an enchanting backdrop. Nevertheless, we find the atmosphere of the fountains at the Bellagio in Las Vegas or the Dubai Fountain at Burj Khalifa even more impressive. But the water features of the Palm Fountain are a nice alternative, because there is a lot more space here and everything is a little quieter.

In our opinion, the best view of the fountains and the promenade is from the balcony on the 1st floor next to the Poseidon Café and the KYO Restaurant & Lounge (Google Maps). Access is, of course, public and free of charge.

The Hotel Atlantis the Palm

Finally we were able to take a great look at the illuminated Hotel Atlantis The Palm.
