Siem Reap – Hotel, Old Market & the Butterfly Farm (Cambodia)

Categories: Travel reports, Asia, Cambodia

Today we flew from Singapore with Jetstar Asia to Siem Reap in Cambodia, the 4th country of this year’s Southeast Asia trip 🙂

Siem

Entry to Cambodia

German citizens can use the Visa on Arrival and receive a visa directly upon entry, which has cost us USD 20.

Our hotel in Siem Reap

We chose the Gloria Angkor Hotel for 2 nights.

Things to know about Siem Reap

Siem Reap is the starting point for a visit to the temples of Angkor and is located about five kilometers south of the temple area. The city is fully adapted to visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are hotels in every price range imaginable. On each street corner, moped taxis ($6-8 a day) and tuk-tuks ($8-12 a day) are waiting for customers. For smaller excursions you can also rent a bike (the small temple tour can be done well by bike). The Old Market

The Old Market is the most famous market in the city. Here you will find mainly fruit, meat, vegetables, fish as well as clothing, souvenirs, craftsmanship, jewellery, accessories and also watches.

Pub Street in Siem Reap

There are many restaurants, especially around Pub Street. Here we ate and drank really delicious on both evenings… and really cheap.

The Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre

We also visited the Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre.

On the way back to the hotel we observed a group of monkeys on the side of the road.

All travelogues from South-East Asia (2013)

In this holiday through South East Asia we travelled through 5 different countries. Starting with our flight to Hong Kong (China), then on to Bangkok (Thailand), to the million metropolis Singapore, then into the jungle to the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Wat to Siem Riep (Cambodia), on to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and finally to the island of Borneo (Malaysia). An unbelievably fascinating journey with an incredible number of impressions and experiences.
