After 4 eventful days in Kruger National Park, we went first to Pretoria, the capital of South Africa. The climate here is subtropical and the sun shines on an average of 300 days a year. The city has about 750,000 inhabitants and has one of the leading university cities in South Africa. The University of Pretoria and UNISA (University of South Africa) is an all-national university and one of the largest remote universities in the world with over 250,000 students.

The capital Pretoria
In Pretoria we took a quick look at the Union Buildings government building, which is the seat of government in South Africa from July to December. From January to June, however, the South African Parliament meets in Cape Town. The complex was built between 1910 and 1913 and is about 275 metres long. In May 1994, the first black president of the Republic of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, was sworn in here.
