Plopsaland Germany – Family adventure in the theme park

Categories: Travel reports, Europe, Germany

After we visited Plopsaland Belgium during our summer vacation and being absolutely thrilled, we really wanted to visit Plopsaland Germany. We actually knew the theme park from our childhood, when it was still called “Holiday Park”. We were therefore very excited to see how the park has changed over the years.

Interesting facts about Plopsaland Germany

Plopsaland Deutschland is located in Haßloch in Rhineland-Palatinate, just a few kilometers from the state border with Baden-Württemberg. Its origins date back to the early 1970s, when the park first opened as a fairytale forest and soon after became known as “Holiday Park”. Over the decades, the area has grown from a few hectares at the beginning to around 40 hectares, with new themed areas and attractions being added time and again. In 2010, the Belgian Plopsa Group took over the business, which marked the start of a comprehensive modernization. Since summer 2025, the park has officially been called “Plopsaland Deutschland” to make its affiliation with the international Plopsa brand even clearer.

Today, the park offers around 45 attractions, ranging from family-friendly themed rides to adrenaline-filled roller coasters. The flagship is the mega roller coaster “Expedition GeForce”, which is one of the most spectacular rides in Europe with a height of over 50 meters and a top speed of up to 120 km/h. The park has numerous indoor and outdoor areas for children, including themed worlds for well-known characters such as Maya the Bee or the Smurfs.

The different Theme Park areas

The theme park is divided into different themed areas, each dedicated to a well-known character or a special motto. Visitors can explore the colorful world of Maya the Bee in Maja Land, stroll through detailed scenes of the famous comic characters in the Smurfs adventure or experience maritime adventures in Wickie Land.

Fountain square

The fountain square in Plopsaland Germany is the central meeting point when you enter the theme park. The fountain square is surrounded by lovingly themed buildings, stores and food stands and has an area in the middle where water fountains play in time to music and light effects.

Maja-Land

Our first destination in the theme park was Maja-Land, a lovingly designed themed area where everything revolves around Maya the Bee and her friends. This was perfect for our two kids (aged 2 and 5), as almost all the rides here are designed for small children. The meet & greet with Maja and Willi was also a great highlight.

The following attractions and rides can be found in Maja-Land:

Maja’s Blütensplash: a carousel with gondolas in the shape of giant calyxes
Crazy tree: A tree that swings wildly up and down, almost like a small swing boat
Flower tower: A small freefall tower
Flip, the grasshopper: A riding arena with grasshopper figures
Butterfly flight: an interactive carousel where you can determine the flight altitude yourself
The frogs: A carousel with frog gondolas that hop up and down
Mini-Cars: A bumper car in mini format
Lara’s ladybug flight: A carousel with ladybug gondolas
Willi’s raft ride: a carousel with small boats that glide through the water
Bee whirl: A carousel with bee gondolas that spin in circles

Plopsa Indoor

Plopsa Indoor is an indoor themed area that offers fun regardless of the weather, especially for families with small children. There are several thousand square meters of rides, climbing and play areas suitable for children. These include, among others:

Tabaluga’s roller coaster: A gentle family roller coaster that takes little adventurers through an imaginative landscape.
Mia’s Fairy Flight: A flying carousel that lifts guests into the air and offers a magical view of the surroundings.
Farm carousel: A classic carousel with lovingly designed animals that is particularly popular with younger visitors.
Giant slide: A large wave slide that is fun for both children and adults.
Ball pool: A huge ball pool where children can play to their heart’s content.
Adventure forest: A climbing tree that challenges young explorers and develops their skills.
Heidi’s playground: A generously designed playground that invites you to run around and discover.

It is generally a very good idea to have a theme area in an amusement park that is independent of the weather. On the day we visited, it started raining heavily from 5pm, so the indoor area was of course perfect 🙂

Wickie-Land

Wickie-Land is a themed area that opened in 2021 and revolves around the adventures of Wickie, the little Viking. Covering an area of around 10,000 square meters, Wickieland offers a mixture of exciting rides, interactive experiences and family-friendly attractions. These include The Big Wave, a spinning Disk’O Coaster. The Wickie Splash Battle is an interactive water ride with boats across a lake and the kids can let off steam in the large Wickie playground.

The Smurfs adventure

The Smurfs Adventure is a new indoor themed ride that takes children and adults into the colorful world of the Smurfs. On this ride, visitors experience an interactive route through a detailed Smurf village with lovingly animated figures, water and special effects. We were actually a little disappointed with this attraction. Everything is super dark and sometimes it’s off-putting for the children. Even our big girl was scared. A “world of Smurfs” is somehow more cheerful and friendly. Even though this attraction is approved for “all ages”, we can’t really recommend this ride for small children.

Roller coasters

Plopsaland Germany has four roller coasters designed for different age groups and thrill levels: Expedition GeForce is considered one of the most thrilling roller coasters in Europe. The roller coaster stretches over an impressive distance of 1,220 meters, reaches a maximum speed of 120 km/h and a height of 53 meters. The ride lasts around 1 minute and 15 seconds and includes seven moments of weightlessness (airtime). Sky Scream offers a spectacular freefall experience combined with loops and fast spins. Tabaluga’s roller coaster in the Plopsa indoor area is specially designed for children, gentle and themed around the character Tabaluga. The 100% Wolf family roller coaster (from fall 2025) is aimed at the whole family and combines moderate speed with fun themed elements from the popular children’s series.

White water rides

Plopsaland Germany has two water ride attractions, Wickie Splash and DinoSplash. Wickie Splash is a 1,000-metre-long white water ride where visitors first ride leisurely through a Viking village in large wooden barrels, pass through animated scenes and finally ride up a steep descent. DinoSplash, formerly called “Thunder River”, is a rafting adventure that takes you around 500 meters through a prehistoric landscape, where lifelike dinosaurs and splashing rapids provide thrilling moments.

Beach Area

The Beach Area is located at the back of Plopsaland Germany and offers several attractions: Sky Scream is a thrilling roller coaster with loops and rapid curves, the Lighthouse Tower is a 70-metre-high chain carousel, at Die Fischerboote the little ones can sail across the water in boats and Beach Rescue is a water ride where visitors maneuver through splashy obstacles in lifeboats.

Super Wings water playground

On warm and sunny days, don’t forget your swimsuit 🙂

With the Super Wings water playground, Plopsaland Germany has a really great large water playground with various water slides such as Jett Slide, Dizzy Slide, Donnie Slide and Jerome Race. The theme of the playground is based on the popular Super Wings series.

Other attractions and rides

There are many other rides and attractions on the theme park grounds, such as Sky Fly, a rotating carousel where visitors can control their own flight path and experience upward and downward movements. At Balloon Race, guests spin in colorful hot air balloons, while Red Baron is a classic flying carousel for children. Blinky’s Soapboxes offers a fast-paced mini car race track and Blinky’s Outback Expedition is a small themed ride that takes you through an adventurous outback landscape.

Plopsa Festival Finale

The Plopsa Festival Finale is a highlight at the end of an eventful day at the park. Popular characters such as Maya the Bee, Blinky Bill, Tabaluga, Heidi, 100% Wolf and the Smurfs perform live and dance to their well-known hits on the main stage at Fontänenplatz.

Is a visit to Plopsaland Germany worthwhile?

A visit to Plopsaland Deutschland is particularly worthwhile for families with younger children and fans of popular characters such as Maya the Bee, the Smurfs or Vicky the Viking. Just like Plopsaland Belgium, the park offers a colorful mix of roller coasters, water rides, interactive playgrounds and shows, so there is something for all ages. The themed areas in particular, such as Maja Land, Wickieland and the Beach Area, are lovingly designed and offer a wide variety of attractions. Shows such as the Plopsa Festival Finale also provide special entertainment. Thrill-seekers will get their money’s worth with Expedition GeForce or Sky Scream.

We knew the park from our childhood, when it was still called “Holiday Park”. A lot has really changed since then and we really enjoyed our visit. And although we visited the park on a Saturday during the summer vacations, everything went smoothly and we never had to queue for long.
