Our day at LEGOLAND Deutschland in Günzburg (Germany)

Categories: Travel reports, Europe, Germany

Visiting amusement parks is always great fun for the whole family. And we and our children love LEGO. And what could be better than a visit to LEGOLAND? Having already been to LEGOLAND Florida and LEGOLAND California in recent months, it was now time to visit our local LEGOLAND Deutschland in Günzburg. And how cool is it that Europe’s first independent PEPPA PIG park recently opened right next to LEGOLAND in May 2024? That makes the journey even more worthwhile 😉

Things to know about LEGOLAND Germany

LEGOLAND Germany Resort is a leisure and theme park resort in Günzburg, Bavaria, between Augsburg and Ulm in the immediate vicinity of the A8 highway. The theme park in the Bavarian Swabia vacation region is aimed at families with children aged 2 to 12 and offers a variety of experiences in different areas, for which over 57 million Lego bricks have been used. With around 1.7 million visitors a year, LEGOLAND Günzburg is one of the best-known and most popular theme parks in Germany. Opened in 2002, the theme park offers exciting and fun experiences for adults and children with 68 attractions and roller coasters.

FUN FACT
It would take twelve hours to ride all the LEGOLAND attractions, see all the shows and movies and take part in all the workshops – and that’s not including queuing, waiting and walking around the park 😉

Since June 2008, LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort has also included the world’s first LEGOLAND vacation village with various accommodation options. Whether you spend the night in the new forest adventure lodge, in the NINJAGO quarters, on a pirate island, in a knights’ and princesses’ castle or in a camping barrel – all the accommodation is exceptional and designed with great attention to detail.

There are also nine other LEGOLAND parks in the world: LEGOLAND Billund in Denmark, LEGOLAND Windsor outside London, LEGOLAND Florida and LEGOLAND New York as well as LEGOLAND California in the USA, LEGOLAND Malaysia, LEGOLAND Dubai, LEGOLAND Japan and LEGOLAND Korea.

Opening hours, entrance & parking

LEGOLAND Deutschland is usually open every year from March to November. During the remaining months, the resort goes into a winter break. Last year, for the first time, there was a WinterWonder LEGOLAND on selected days during the winter months. Here, visitors could look forward to festive decorations, winter driving fun, an ice skating rink, mulled wine and impressive shows. The leisure park is open most days from 10 am to 6 pm. Opening hours are longer at weekends, during vacations and on public holidays. It is also important to know that the rides close 1 hour before the park closes.

The regular admission price for adults is EUR 64 and EUR 58 for children aged 2 and over. However, there are always cheap day tickets for the season from EUR 39 per person – especially online on the LEGOLAND website. Children under the age of two are always admitted free of charge. If you want to use the LEGOLAND parking lot, you need a parking ticket for your car, which costs EUR 10.

Our tip: It’s well worth browsing the internet before your visit and researching whether there are any other ticket offers available. Sometimes there are “2 for 1 promotions” on cornflakes packets or cheap tickets at discount stores. Just keep your eyes open 🙂

Where was Miniland again? And what’s the quickest way to get to the nearest restaurant? You can easily answer these questions by taking a look at the park map, which can also be downloaded from the official website of LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort(Download Park Map).

Themed areas at LEGOLAND Germany

When you enter LEGOLAND through the main entrance arch visible from afar, you automatically end up in the entrance area. Here you will find the information desk, the annual pass office, a boutique and the City Shop. We found the LEGO minifigure studio particularly cool, where you can create and assemble your very own LEGO minifigures. This is a really great souvenir for young and old – and for just EUR 2.49 per figure.

You can start your tour of the park comfortably and relaxed from the entrance area. Ten different themed worlds are waiting to be explored by us. So let’s get going!

LEGO CITY

There were two highlights for us at LEGO City. On the one hand, there is a LEGO factory where you can see how LEGO bricks and LEGO minifigures are made. At the beginning, each visitor receives an exclusive LEGO collectible brick (which is presumably also produced directly in the factory), then a short video about the production of the bricks is shown in a small movie theater and finally you walk through the factory and learn about the various manufacturing processes. It was super interesting and very entertaining!

The second highlight was the LEGOLAND Junior Driving School, where our daughter drove her laps in a LEGO car and received a LEGOLAND driving license at the end. She had a lot of fun and was really proud of her driver’s license!

LEGO CITY is also home to the LEGOLAND Express station, which invites you to take a trip around LEGO CITY and Miniland. There was a lot going on here all day and the queuing times were unfortunately very long, so we didn’t take the train.

Land of the knights

In the land of knights is the majestic knight’s castle, which is home to the fire dragon . This rollercoaster ride initially takes you through the castle at a moderate pace – past the kitchen, banqueting hall, a treasure chamber and numerous LEGO models. As soon as you hit the winding outdoor track, the pace picks up considerably and you race through the terrain on the back of the fire dragon.

We were able to try our luck panning for gold. This attraction is not included in the admission price and costs an additional EUR 8 per person. Equipped with a gold panning sieve, we went to the pools and then tried to get out everything that glitters and shines. At the end, we were able to exchange our finds for a coin made of real LEGOLAND gold. That was a really great experience!

Miniland

As at LEGOLAND Florida and LEGOLAND California, Miniland was one of the main attractions for us at LEGOLAND Deutschland. Here we were able to admire miniature models of famous landmarks and well-known cities built entirely from LEGO bricks. The Miniland at LEGOLAND Deutschland is so incredibly detailed and lovingly designed – we really spent ages here looking at everything at our leisure. An incredible 23 million LEGO bricks were used here to create a fascinating world in miniature format.

We have been able to discover many well-known sights and cities in Germany, all of which have been faithfully reproduced on a scale of 1:20: Be it Neuschwanstein Castle, the Allianz Arena in Munich, the Reichstag in Berlin or the Römer in Frankfurt. Also represented are Venice, Holland and Switzerland as well as five of the world’s tallest skyscrapers (Burj Khalifa (Dubai), Ping An Finance Center (China), Shanghai Tower (China), Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel (Saudi Arabia), One World Trade Center (USA)).

Many of the miniature landscapes are also equipped with moving elements and interactive functions. For example, you can move boats around at the touch of a button or launch a hot air balloon. Our daughter thought it was really cool and kept scurrying back and forth to see where the next interactive element was.

Imagination

The Imagination theme world is a place full of creativity, fantasy and lots of fun. In this area there are various attractions for children (and adults) of all ages. One highlight was the ride up the 43-meter-high observation tower, the landmark of LEGOLAND Deutschland. At a lofty height, you have a perfect all-round view of LEGOLAND, the PEPPA PIG Park, the vacation village and the surrounding area. Which we thought was a shame: Unfortunately, we couldn’t enjoy the trip together as a family. With our little daughter we were turned away (somewhat unfriendly and annoyed) by a member of staff because our daughter wasn’t wearing shoes. Because apparently the rule is: no shoes, no ride.

Other attractions in the Imagination theme area include the LEGO City police station, the Kids Power Tower, the LEGO Friends room, a ride on the pedal-o-mobile, the LEGO Arena and the Gallery of Football Stars.

There is a large water playground in the DUPLO Village, which is the perfect place to cool off in the hot summer temperatures. There is also a playground with LEGO DUPLO-designed houses where the children can let off steam and the DUPLO Express, which we took for a short ride. There is also a HiPP Baby Service in the DUPLO Village, which offers a variety of amenities for families with small children: There is a cozy breastfeeding corner, a spacious changing room with HiPP care products and an extensive product range of baby and toddler food.

Our tip: Make sure you bring your swimsuit and a change of clothes!

Land of the pirates

In the land of pirates, we didn’t actually ride a single ride, we just walked around. But of course not without taking a look at the attractions. We found Captain Nick’s pirate battle really funny, because here the ships attack each other with water cannons and the spectators can also splash the occupants of the boats. What a wet and cheerful fun!

In July 2024, a brand new water playground was opened in the land of pirates: Pirate Water Fun. The interactive water playground is equipped with 1,024 water jets and provides the right refreshment on summer days.

LEGO X-Treme

In the ‘LEGO X-Treme’ range, everything is usually higher, faster and more extreme – so it’s not for our young children. However, with the water playground and LEGOLAND ATLANTIS by SEA LIFE, we found great attractions for all ages. Here you can take a virtual submarine trip to the sunken city of Atlantis, where you can discover around 1,300 tropical sea creatures and over 50 detailed LEGO models.

Other attractions in this theme world include the Great LEGO Race, Wave Riders, Rebuild the World – Planet LEGOLAND, the Techno Slingshot, a Gaming Zone powered by Nintendo and the LEGO Studios, where visitors can enjoy a movie theater experience with exciting 4D and surprise effects.

LEGO NINJAGO World

The themed area is designed in the style of an Asian monastery complex and is therefore a real feast for the eyes. We did not go on the two rides LEGO NINJAGO The Ride and Lloyd’s Spinjitzu Spinner due to the size and age restrictions.

Land of adventure

In the land of adventure, we really enjoyed the adventure playground and the safari tour. The safari tour takes you through the dense LEGO jungle past over 90 life-size animal models such as elephants, flamingos and zebras built from LEGO bricks.

We also had a lot of fun on the Jungle X-Pedition – but watching and not driving ourselves. From the top of a large volcano, the plunge ride goes down the twelve-meter waterfall into the lagoon. And right here we stood on the edge and watched the boats plummet down and the occupants get pretty wet. That was great fun!

Other attractions in this themed area are the monkey theater and the canoe X-pedition.

Land of the pharaohs

In the land of the pharaohs, an Egyptian themed world has been created that is visually totally impressive. With the Pyramid Rally, the Temple X-pedition and the Desert X-cursion, there are a total of three rides here.

LEGO Mythica

Behind the land of the pharaohs is the LEGO Mythica theme world, which was reopened in March 2023. Here, everything revolves around mythical creatures in a magical world. For the necessary thrills, there is the Maximus roller coaster – The Flight of the Guardian and the Fire & Ice Tower, a family freefall tower that will give you a tingle in your stomach.

Events, shows & LEGOLAND Parade

During the summer (June 29 to September 8, 2024), the LEGO Arena will be transformed into a show stage as part of the LEGO DREAMZzz summer show. The show offers breathtaking stunts, fascinating artists and a multimedia LEGO DREAMZzz experience, which is celebrating its world premiere in Germany.

Throughout the year there are various events at LEGOLAND Deutschland, such as the long summer nights with fireworks at the end, the Halloween Monster Party and WinterWonder LEGOLAND.

LEGOLAND Deutschland is also hosting the world’s first LEGOLAND parade with themed floats, mascots and lots of glittering costumes. However, the parade currently only takes place on Saturdays at 4 pm, which is why we were unfortunately unable to experience it ourselves. You can watch a video of the parade on YouTube.

Restaurants

LEGOLAND has a total of eight restaurants offering a wide range of delicious dishes, from burgers to crisp salads and oven-fresh pizzas to Asian dishes. There is something for every taste here. There are also cafés, drinks stations and ice cream parlors.

Our tip: Pack a lunch at home and take a few healthy snacks, sandwiches and some fruit and vegetables with you. This can save a lot of money. Incidentally, we saw several drinking water dispensers on site, for example in front of the toilets in LEGO CITY. It is therefore also worth taking water bottles with you to the park.

How did we like LEGOLAND Germany?

We had a very eventful day at LEGOLAND Germany as a family. There was always a lot to discover in the various themed worlds and time flew by. With our two small children, we took lots of breaks, spent longer in the playgrounds and ate something in between. Our highlights were Miniland, the DUPLO Village, the trip up the observation tower, the successful gold hunt, the LEGO factory and the LEGOLAND Junior Driving School. And when we discover our two individually created LEGO minifigures at home, we immediately think back to this wonderful day 🙂

Our tip: If you have smaller children, you should definitely visit the newly opened PEPPA PIG Park Germany. This is located directly opposite LEGOLAND. Here you can find our detailed report on the PEPPA PIG Park with lots of photos.
