There are countless hotels and accommodation in Mauritius. From simple hostels to absolute luxury resorts, there is something for every taste. Most hotels are located in the southwest, west, northwest, north and east coast. On the other hand, there are hardly any major hotels around the airport, which is located in the southeast of the island, and also in the south of the island. This is our travel post from the 5* Hotel Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa.

Das Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa
If you search trip advisor to hotels in Mauritius, you will get over 850 entries! Choosing the right hotel isn’t that easy. Since we really wanted to climb the mountain Le Morne Brabant and you should go here very early, we had chosen a hotel in the southwest of Mauritius for the first days. There are 6 major hotels on the Peninsula of Le Morne and our choice is the 5-star Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa.
Many people may even know this hotel from television: the ARD film series “Die Inselärztin” has already been filmed here with several episodes and we had actually seen one of the episodes on TV some time ago. We could also recognize some of the beautiful scenery in the pictures we saw from the hotel on the internet. Online there is a very nice making-of-video of “The Island Doctor”, in which you can also get many impressions of the beautiful hotel complex.
The location of the hotel in Mauritius
From The airport “Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport” we took the car along the south coast to the hotel, which is located on the peninsula of Le Morne. For the way we took about 2.5 hours including a few small photo stops. The pure journey time is about 75 minutes.
The facilities of the Dinarobin Resort
Arrived at the hotel we were very nicely welcomed with a welcome drink and could already check in and move into our room, even though it was only early in the morning. Since the hotel is now only 70 occupied in February, this was not a problem and really good, because we were able to take a shower after the long flight 🙂
The hotel complex of Dinarobin Beachcomber is characterized by the backdrop of the mountain Le Morne Brabant, which is located directly behind the hotel and has a very distinctive shape. On many of the photos we took of the facility, it stands out in the background. And it is precisely this dreamlike setting – the mountain Le Morne Brabant in the background and on the other side the vastness of the ocean – that has made the hotel so special for us. In addition, there are the countless palm trees, which give the already green complex a very tropical character.
The reception of the hotel is very spacious and open. Here we also exchanged money on the first day. The exchange rate here was much better than if we had changed at home at the bank or at the airport.
Right next to the Dinarobin is another beachcomber hotel, Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa. The comforts of the sister hotel can be used free of charge as guests of the Dinarobin Hotel. To get to the site, you can simply use one of the handy red Golf Car Shuttle buses that shuttle back and forth between the two resorts at regular intervals. Since we were only in the Dinarobin for three days, we unfortunately did not have time to try one of the other restaurants; but they should also be very good.
Our Junior Suite
Dinarobin Beachcomber has 172 residential units,i.e. rooms or villas in different categories. We stayed for three nights in a 65 sqm junior suite and felt very comfortable in the room.
In front of the actual room there is an anteroom or a kind of terrace, in which there is a sofa including a small table and from which you have a great view of the tropical gardens and the pool. From here you go to the combined living & sleeping room, which also has a small seating area. A spacious bathroom including a separate toilet and a dressing area is right next door. Otherwise, there are all the amenities you are used to from other hotels in the room: hair dryer, TV, mini-bar, coffee/tea maker, bathrobes, bath slippers, safe, ironing board and iron as well as free and very well-functioning WiFi.
The different restaurants at Dinarobin Hotel
We had a half-board meal packagefor our stay at Dinarobin Beachcomber. This means that breakfast and dinner were included in the price. Since we are mostly on the road during the day anyway, this is also enough for us. The only drawback with half-board is that the drinks are not included, i.e. neither during the day by the pool nor in the evening at dinner or at the bar. As an alternative to half board, you can of course also book “Breakfast Only” or “All-Inclusive”. On the grounds of Dinarobin Beachcomber there are a total of four different restaurants:
The main restaurant L’Harmonie
L’Harmonie is the main restaurant of the resort, which is located directly at the main pool. Breakfast is served here and in the evening there is a buffet dinner. In front of the restaurant there is a very large terrace where you can have a great meal under palm trees overlooking the sea.
The restaurant La Plage
The restaurant La Plage is located directly on the beach and is only open for lunch or twice a week for dinner on the beach.
The Italian restaurant Il Gusto
The Italian restaurant Il Gusto is located right next to the main restaurant and is open 6 days a week. For this a la carte restaurant, you have to reserve a table in advance if you want to eat here in the evening. Every guest who has booked half board has a certain amount of credit here, which he can spend for a meal here. If you order a more expensive dish on the card, you have to bear the additional costs yourself.
The pan-Asian a la carte restaurant Umami
Umami is a pan-Asian a la carte restaurant, open 6 days a week and also located on the edge of the main pool. Similar to Il Gusto, there is also a certain amount of credit that can be used. Anything that costs more, you have to pay for yourself.
In addition to the four restaurants in Dinarobin, there are also other restaurants in the sister hotel Paradis Beachcomber, which can be used free of charge.
Breakfast
Breakfast at L’Harmonie offers a good and varied selection. We particularly liked the wide range of freshly sliced fruit: be it passion fruit, mango, kiwi, coconut, watermelon, papaya, dragon fruit or honeymelon. Simply wonderful and as refreshing – just like the delicious smoothies. But we also liked the baguette and cake selection. For the European palate, cheese and sausage were also included in various variations. Definitely a very good basis for a great start to the day 🙂
Dinner
For dinner we were always in the L’Harmonie main restaurant as we are great buffet lovers. We just like to be able to take what you want at the buffet and try everything out. At L’Harmonie, every evening has a different motto, for example Mediterranean, international or local. There is a large live cooking station where, for example, the fish and meat are freshly fried. In addition, there is a wide selection of various starters and desserts. We found the ice station particularly great. What we found strange was the fact that you even have to pay for the water at dinner if you booked half board. Normally we know it so that at half-board at least the normal table water is included free of charge.
Golf, Water Sports, Tennis & Activities
Dinarobin Resort offers its guests a range of free sports. This seems to be very common in Mauritius, including in other hotels, that no extra money is required for such activities. On the other hand, the hotel stays on the island are often expensive enough, so we think it’s nice that these services are included.
If you are a guest of the Dinarobin Beachcomber Hotel, you can enjoy all the sports facilities of the neighbouring sister hotel Paradis Beachcomber free of charge. All in all, you have a really wide selection of different (free) activities, such as: water aerobics, water skiing, windsurfing, sailing, hobie cats, glass bottom boat, snorkeling, pedal boat, kayaks, stand-up paddle, tennis, table tennis, bocce, feather ball, volleyball and the gym. Of course, there are also paid activities, such as kitesurfing, diving or golfing on the in-house golf course ‘Paradis Golf Course’.
We borrowed a stand-up paddle for an hour, because we couldn’t try it yet and wanted to take the chance. In the midday sun it was quite exhausting, but against the backdrop of the mountain Le Morne Brabant and with the crystal clear water it was a unique experience. So great!
The spa area for relaxing & well-being
The Dinarobin Spa is a true oasis. It has its own swimming pool, from which you have a great view of The Mountain Le Morne in the background. Everything is very lovingly and tastefully furnished, so that you can relax and be pampered here.
The 7 pools of the hotel
On the hotel grounds there is a large main pool as well as six smaller pools, which we also really liked. Due to the high number of pools, the guests have spread over the complex nicely, so that there were also moments where we could use the pool all by ourselves. Free sunbeds, umbrellas and bath towels are also available here in sufficient numbers.
The mile-long white sandy beach
The beach of Dinarobin stretches along the entire hotel complex and is also really beautiful white and fine. However, due to the strong tides, often also sections of the beach come to light, which are not so beautiful. For example, in some parts of the beach, especially at low tide, you have a protruding, dark block of coral that makes access to the sea quite difficult. Other areas of the beach are barrier-free and you can enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean here 🙂
On the beach there is a great bar where you can enjoy one or the other sundowner cocktail overlooking the sea. And behind it again the striking Le Morne Berg – we just can’t get enough of this scenery!
Overall, we felt very comfortable at Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and the facility is really spacious and very nice. The only downside is that our 3 days here passed far too quickly 🙂
