Amazon River – Jungle Walk & Boat tour on the Rio Negro (Brazil)

Kategorien: Reiseblog, South America, Brazil

To get in and get to know the Amazon, we took a boat trip on the Rio Negro with our guide Roy from the Anavilhanas Village Lodge and then a short hike through the jungle.

A boat trip on the Rio Negro in the Amazon

Today we went by boat to the other bank of the River Negro, which at this point is an incredible 22 km wide. By comparison, Lake Constance is just 14 km wide! Here we drove through the individual side arms and got to know the native flora and fauna. The little monkeys who climbed up to us were especially nice.

Hike through the jungle

On foot with Roy (our “Greenpeace Ancient Forest Guardian”) we went through the lush green of the Amazon jungle.

Roy told us a lot about the native flora and fauna – especially about the many medicinal plants. The Amazon is the region with the largest biodiversity on earth, so we were a little disappointed that we hardly saw any animals apart from a few birds and a gecko. This was probably due to the fact that there is currently low water. In the high season (when the area is completely flooded) it would probably be much easier to see the many animals, because then you can then get much deeper into the regular forest by boat or canoe and is much closer to the treetops.

Reiseberichte Brasilien » Rio de Janeiro: Copacabana, Ipanema & Cristo Redentor
