The island of North Seymour

We had a total of 16 people in our group. Our journey took us from Puerto Ayora to the north of the island, to the Itabaca Channel. At the harbour we went with a small inflatable boat to our small yacht, which took us to North Seymour.

North Seymour was formed by a series of submarine lava flows, is about 2 km2 in size and uninhabited. The island is characterized by its diversity of sea lions, blue-footed oils, land iguanas and the frigate birds with their red throat sacks.

The sea lions on the island

Arriving at the island we saw the first Lee lions. At this time of year you will find many sea lion cubs all over Galapagos… and aren’t they really sweet? A circular trail leads over the island, where you can see all sorts of birds nesting everywhere.

The frigate birds with red throat sack

The most famous are the frigate birds with their red throat bags.

The Blue-footed Tölpel on Galapagos

And of course the “blue-footed booby” must not be missing.

Land iguanas on North Seymour

But on North Seymour, iguanas are everywhere on the rocks.

After about 1.5 hours we went back on board, where we had lunch and the journey south to the island of Santa Cruz continued.
